National News:

  • Suicide rates in the United States have reached a 30-year high, according to the National Center for Health Statistics. Women and middle aged Americans saw an especially large increase. The overall increase between 1999 and 2014 was 24%.
  • A bill introduced by Senator Benjamin Cardin, the True LEADership Act of 2016, would provide $70 billion over ten years on efforts to fight lead contamination.

New York State News:

  • A public hearing hosted by the Assembly labor committee will be held on April 27th to address workplace safety programs in New York State.

New York City News:

  • New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio announced this week a series of measures meant to reduce drug overdoses and connect people to treatment. Read more here.
  • New Yorkers with a NYC municipal ID will now be able to use it to access health care services and access their medical records.
