Medicare Prescription Drug Premiums Hold Steady

8/8/12 – The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recently announced that Medicare prescription premiums will remain constant in 2013. This marks the third straight year where prescription drug premiums for will not increase. Medicaid recipients have also saved $3.9 billion on prescription drugs since the Affordable Care Act took effect.

New York Seeks Waiver to Reinvest Medicaid Savings

8/7/12 – Yesterday, Gov. Cuomo submitted to the Center for Medicaid Services the much-anticipated MRT Medicaid waiver amendment that, if approved, will allow the state to reinvest Medicaid savings into new programs that are designed to reap more savings in the years to come.

New Research Begun on Alzheimer’s Prevention Drug

5/21/12 – The New York Times ran an editorial today about a new research program announced by Pres. Obama that will test a drug’s ability to prevent the onset of Alzheimer’s disease before any symptoms appear. The trial does not adhere to conventional guidelines but instead focuses on members of an extended family in Colombia who carry a rare genetic mutation that causes them to develop Alzheimer’s in their 40’s.
